Open an Edit Profile

The Edit Profile dialog appears when you have chosen Open on the Edit menu of the ScanTools Main Window. This dialog lets you modify an existing edit profile for the selected application.

When you move the mouse pointer over data in the window that can be changed, the pointer turns into a magnifying glass. Click the left mouse button to display what can be done to that data. There are three types of shows:

• Toggle.The item alternates between 2 values when you click on the item. The two toggle items are Can Be Blank / Cannot Be Blank and Correction Optional / Correction Mandatory.
• Popup Menu.A popup menu appears when you click on the item. Examples of these are the Application popup, Document popup, and Edit Type popup. Press the F1 key on your keyboard while the popup appears to show the online help description of the items on the popup.
• Dialog Box. A dialog box appears when you click on the item. Examples of these are the Profile Name dialog and the Extended Edit Options dialog.

The following are the edit items in the order in which they appear or are encountered while creating an edit profile. (For example, the Edit Profile File Name is the first item displayed in an edit profile, Application is the second item, and so on.)

The name and number of your application appear according to your selection in the Preferences dialog, Application Display group box: Title only, Title - Number, or Number - Title.

Can Be Blank / Cannot Be Blank toggle

Click on this item to toggle between these two choices. There is no dialog for this parameter.

• Can Be Blank means there does not have to be a data character in this field; no response (omit) is acceptable.
• Cannot Be Blank means the field must have data; if there is no data, it is considered an omit and is flagged for editing.

Correction Optional / Correction Mandatory toggle

You can toggle between these choices using your mouse. There is no dialog for this parameter.

• Correction Optional means you do not need to correct invalid data. You can leave it uncorrected in the data file. The editor will prompt you for correction but you can proceed without correcting.
• Correction Mandatory means that invalid data is not acceptable for this field. You must correct the data before it is written to the data file. If Mandatory is selected and you are performing online edit correction, you must correct the data before you can proceed.
