Edit Profile - Edit Type popup

This popup list is used when you create or open an edit profile. It is only available when you select Show All Field Edit Options in the Edit Profile - Application popup or the Edit Profile - Document popup.

As you move your mouse cursor over a field edit name, the cursor changes to a magnifying glass. If you click while the magnifying glass is showing, this popup list appears. You can choose one of the edit options listed below, and the appropriate action occurs for the field edit item your cursor was on.

For Image Scanner Implementation Only: For grayboxes, the same edit type must be used for both online (scan-time) and post-scan editing.

No Edit

When selected, ScanTools software does not evaluate the field.

Partial Edit

This option instructs ScanTools software to evaluate only part of the field. When selected, the Partial Edit dialog appears.

Partial Edits and Custom Translate Tables: When applying a partial edit to a field which uses a custom translate table, each partial edit must begin at the first character of a response to ensure all multiples and omits are accurately identified.

CAUTION: Do NOT attempt to perform partial editing of date fields. ScanTools is set up to accept month/day data between 01/01 and 12/31. If you partially edit the date without including the year, dates such as 01/32, 01/99, 02/30, etc., will be considered valid. Perform only FULL editing of the 6-character or 8-character date field.

Full Edit

When you select Full Edit, the entire field is validated based on the edit criteria of the edit profile.

Graybox Edit

For Image Scanner Implementation Only:A graybox must be the first type of grid appended to a field for this edit to be used. Graybox edits are different from other edit types. A graybox edit determines whether an image clip of the graybox should be taken during scanning, for use later in the post-scan editor.

For all grayboxes, the same edit type must be used for both scan-time and post-scan editing.

Graybox data is defined by the Graybox Tool. At scanning time, a graybox evaluate region is searched for the presence of image data using the Cutoff Value defined in the Graybox Tool. Edit processing differs, depending on whether it is a standard graybox or an ICR/OCR graybox. See below for details about each.

Standard Grayboxes

At scan time, the detected read mark value is stored in the document record. A graybox edit compares the read mark value in the data record against the Graybox threshold defined in the edit profile.

For standard grayboxes, data acceptance criteria such as Can be Blank/Cannot be Blank, Completeness Checking, and Right/Left Justified are applied to the data that is key-entered in the post-scan editor (key from image, also known as KFI) when Correction Mandatory is selected in the edit profile.

NOTE: If you define a Complete edit or select "No Multiple Marks" in the edit profile for a standard graybox, ScanTools will not allow asterisks in the key entered data if "No Multiples" is specified in the edit profile because the asterisk symbol represents a multiple. Similarly, spaces will not be allowed in the key entered data if a Completeness Edit is specified in the edit profile because a space represents an omit.

ICR/OCR Grayboxes

If the RealTime Character Recognition component is installed and a graybox edit is defined, the recognition results determine whether an image clip is taken for use in the post-scan editor.

The field is first checked for the presence of data, based on whether it meets the Cutoff Value specified in the Graybox Tool dialog.

If any character has a confidence level lower than the value in the application definition ICR/OCR parameters Minimum Character Confidence, the graybox is considered to have failed the edit and the On Failure Program Action selected in the ICR/OCR Confidence Failure group box is executed. An image clip of the graybox is taken. The record is presented for key entry in the post-scan editor if the Program Action is Require Key Entry. The post-scan editor shows the image clip of the graybox and low confidence characters appear using the questionable character symbol (an asterisk). Additional editor display parameters are defined in the Graybox Edit Parameters dialog.

Applications may be developed with the optional RealTime Character Recognition component and then either run with a version of ScanTools without that component or run with an OMR scanner.

The ICR/OCR functions will automatically be reset to the ScanTools environment:

NOTE: If you set the Edit Option to Edit Normally and the Edit Pass Flag in the NCS Header is set to an N or a space, all non-graybox edit failures for that record appears in the post-scan editor, regardless of the Program Action specified in the edit profile.

Always Edit

Post-Scan Editing:Always Edit always shows this field for editing regardless of the validity of the data in the field.

Online Edit Correction: The Data Editor acts as if a Full Edit is in effect. That is, the entire field is validated based on the edit criteria of the edit profile. The record will be queued for correction if the edit validation fails.

Delete Edit

This option deletes the edit currently defined, changing it to No Edit. This is considered a minor delete. Depending on how you have set your confirmation options, you may or may not receive a confirmation message asking you if you really want to do this. Confirmations are set in the Main Window, Configure menu, Confirmations selection.

Extended Edit Options

When this option is selected, the Extended Edit Options dialog appears, enabling you to replace specific characters or ranges of characters with other characters that you define.
