Edit Profile - Edit Completeness Checking popup

This popup list is used when you create or open an edit profile. It is only available when you select Show All Field Edit Options in the Edit Profile - Application popup or the Edit Profile - Document popup.

You must have an edit defined (Partial Edit, Full Edit, Graybox Edit, or Always Edit), to display this popup. As you move your mouse cursor over the edit options under the edit, the cursor changes to a magnifying glass. If you click while the magnifying glass is showing this option, this popup list appears.

This series of edit criteria define whether an output field is checked for completeness. If checked, it defines what format is proper.

No Completeness Edit

Select No Completeness Edit if you want incomplete fields to be accepted as valid. An incomplete field is one that contains either one or more multiples or one or more omits.

NOTE: We recommend No Completeness Edit as the only selection to use with a Graybox Edit for both Standard and ICR/OCR Grayboxes. Asterisks and spaces, usually considered to be multiples and omits in other grid types, may be low confidence ICR/OCR characters and valid spaces in a graybox.

Complete

Select Complete if you want fields to be complete in order for them to be accepted as valid. A complete field is one that contains no multiples and no omits.

Left Justified

Select Left Justified if you want data to be left-justified in fields in order for the fields to be accepted as valid. Left-justified means that the first character of data must be in the left-most position of the field, the field can contain no multiple marks, and the field must be contiguous (no omits between characters).

Right Justified

Select Right Justified if you want data to be right-justified in fields in order for the fields to be accepted as valid. Right-justified means that the last character of data must be in the right-most position of the field, the field can contain no multiple marks, and the field must be contiguous (no omits between characters).

No Multiple Marks

Select No Multiple Marks if you want data containing multiples to be considered invalid. That is, each response position in the grid may not contain more than one mark for each position.

Preslug Edit

Marks on a sheet that are preprinted are called pre-slugged marks.

DO NOT use this for the following grid types:

When preslug is selected, ScanTools software applies a special editing procedure:

Mod 10 Check Digit

When selected, the data in the field is checked for completeness and a special checksum test is applied to it. This test is useful for making sure that no digits in the field are transposed and that no single digits are misread. This edit can be applied only to a numeric field. It can be applied to the whole field, or part of it, (Full or Partial Edit).

You can use this edit only for a field or partial field that has a check digit response position marked (either preprinted or marked by respondent). This check digit is the right-most (last) digit in the field or part of the field being edited. The check digit is not part of the actual value being edited; it is used only to verify that the other digits are read properly. If an edit fails, the values of the calculated checksum and the check digit appear during editing.

The Mod 10 Edit checksum test works as follows:

Ignoring the right-most (last) digit (the check digit), starting from the right (or first data position) every other data number is multiplied by 2. (First, third, fifth, etc, data positions are used).

Example: for the number 4664173; 3 is the check digit.

7 x 2 = 14

4 x 2 = 8

6 x 2 = 12

Then, each digit in the resulting products and the digits not multiplied are added together. The check digit is not included in this addition.

Example: 1 + 4 + 8 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 6 + 4 = 27

Then, this resulting sum (27) is subtracted from the next highest number ending in zero (30). The difference is the checksum value. It should be equal to the check digit of the number in the field.

Example: 30 - 27 = 3

In the example, 3 is the resulting checksum which matches the check digit for this number, so the field passes the Mod 10 edit. The checksum and the check digit must be equal to pass, if they are not, you receive an edit failure where both values appear.
