Getting Started Options dialog
Use this dialog to create or open a Scantron DesignExpert file. Access this dialog by selecting one of the following:
- File menu, New
- Tool Bar, New
- Window menu, Getting Started Options
If you have no documents open or all open documents minimized, it is displayed automatically. It includes the following choices:

New OMR File
Click this button to create an OMR document to be printed at Scantron Print Services on offset printing presses or, with the optional PrintFlex module, to be printed on plain paper on your own laser printer.
CAUTION: This choice creates a document that will not be configured to laser print on Scantron DesignExpert stock form 103188 or 265914. Once a document has been originated, you can switch between offset printing at Scantron Print Services and PrintFlex but it is not possible to switch to printing on Scantron DesignExpert stock form 103188 or 265914. If you need to create a document using one of those forms, choose New OMR File - Laser Printer Only (below).
The Confirm New screen appears, giving you the option of proceeding or canceling the selection.
Click OK to start the Document Setup wizard that will guide you through setting up your new document.

New OMR File - Laser Printer Only
Click this button to create a new OMR document to be printed on your own laser printer. You can print with the Scantron DesignExpert stock form 103188 or 265914 or, with the optional PrintFlex module, you can print on plain paper.
CAUTION: This choice creates a document that will not be configured to print at Scantron Print Services on offset printing presses. Once a document has been originated, you can switch between laser printing on Scantron DesignExpert stock form 103188 or 265914 and laser printing on plain paper with PrintFlex but it is not possible to switch to offset press printing at Scantron Print Services. If you need to create a document for print at Scantron Print Services, choose New OMR File (above).
The Scantron DesignExpert stock form 103188 or 265914 laser printer option is designed for printing small quantities (less than 1000).
The Confirm New screen appears, giving you the option of proceeding or canceling the selection.
The New OMR File - Laser Printer dialog is displayed after you select OK.

Open File
Click this button to open an existing file. The Open dialog appears. Choose your document and begin editing.
NOTE: The message "Unable to load graphic" appears if a graphic referenced in your Scantron DesignExpert file cannot be located. You can click OK to open the file anyway. A placeholder (shaded box) will be displayed instead of your graphic. You can then use Modify Graphic to locate the referenced graphic or to select a new one. If you are developing a Merge Template for a MergePrint Utility application, this message will be displayed to the end user when referenced graphics cannot be located. If the user selects OK, the graphic placeholder will be printed.
