Add/Replace Background Form Images for Sheet # dialog

These dialogs appear when you click the Add All Images or Add Image button on the New Document dialog or the Select Document dialog. Use these dialogs to add or to replace the top and bottom background form image files for all sheets or for one sheet of the document.

When you add files, the background form image appears on the right-hand side of the application definition window. This provides an accurate visual representation of the printed form, making it easier to define grids for the application. Form ID marks and the number of timing marks are automatically detected and defined from the background form image. Skew marks are not automatically defined from a background form image; they must be manually defined using the Add Skew Mark dialog.

If you click Add All Images button, this dialog automatically appears for each sheet in the document. The title of the dialog shows the number of the sheet you are defining, and the total number of sheets in the document, for example: Add Background Form Images for Sheet 1 of 4.

When you click OK after making your selections for the first sheet, the dialog automatically appears again for the next sheet, until you have made selections for all sheets in the document.

If you click Add Image, this dialog appears for just the sheet you select. The title of the dialog shows a single sheet number.

If the sheet currently has a background form image defined, the title of this dialog appears as Replace, allowing you to change the TIFF file currently selected to a different file.

When you exit this dialog, the selections made in this dialog appear in the Image Clips dialog, not in the New Document or Select Document dialog.

NOTE: The top and bottom sides of each sheet must be the same size when added or scanned (e.g. 8500 x 11000). If not, you see an error message requiring that you change the images so that the sizes are the same.

Top/Bottom Background Form Image

Use this area of the dialog to make selections for the top and bottom sides of the sheet.

File Name

Select the TIFF file (.tif) that is the appropriate background form image for the top or bottom side of the sheet you are currently defining.

Browse

Use this button to navigate to the folder and select the specific TIFF file. The Specify form image file dialog appears; click Openwhen you select the TIFF file name. ScanTools looks for the file in the Applications directory defined in the Paths dialog. Using a file name that is relative to the configured applications path makes it easier to install your application at other locations. Optionally, you can enter the entire directory path and file name.

Rotation

Use this button only if the TIFF file is not in the scanned orientation. Any changes made here are also displayed in the Image Clips dialog.

The rotation buttons are defined as follows:

NOTE: The rotation defined here affects only the background form image, not the individual grid clip files that are produced during scanning. Rotation of individual grid clip files for optimum viewing is defined on the Clip Attributes dialog, which is done separately for each grid, as needed.

For more information, see Background Form Image Considerations and Image Rotation.

Background Form Image Orientation

The initial orientation of the background form images is not critical (i.e. the timing marks can be on any edge of an image). However, for ScanTools to use the images, the images must be rotated so that the timing marks of the top sheet are on the left side of the screen and the timing marks of the bottom sheet are on the right side.

To put the timing marks in the proper orientation for ScanTools, perform the following:

  1. Use an image viewer program to view the image.
  2. Note the position of the timing marks.
  3. Select the proper Rotation buttons (found in the Add Background Form Images for Sheet # dialog box) to put the timing marks on the left edge for the top sheet and the right edge for the bottom sheet.

NOTES:

The top and bottom sides of each sheet must be the same size when added (e.g. 8500 x 11000). If not, ScanTools will generate an error message and not accept the second image.

It is important that the Flip control in the Application Definition window is unchecked when positioning the timing marks to the left or right sides of the screen.
