Caption Text Entry area

Type the caption text characters in the text entry area. Whatever you type here is entered into the caption text box.

TIP: Use the Text Options dialog Caption tab to change the default text characters that appear when you create a caption.

Merge Fields

Specify a name for the caption merge text. If this caption text box has been defined as a Merge Field Type in the Modify Caption Text - Merge tab, the text characters you entered in this dialog will appear on your document workspace enclosed in braces or brackets when you exit this dialog. The braces or brackets do not appear in the caption text entry area, they are automatically added by Scantron DesignExpert software after you exit this dialog.

The type of braces or brackets used depends on which merge field type is selected. This enables you to easily identify the caption text as a merge field, tell what type of merge field it is, and see the variable name you have assigned to it.

  • Variable text type is enclosed in braces: for example {patient name}.
  • Serial number type is enclosed in square brackets: for example [serial number].
  • Record number type is enclosed in angle brackets: for example <record number>.

If caption text is used as a merge field, you can enter or change text from this dialog as described above. You can also change it from the Modify Caption Text Merge tab, Merge Field Name entry area.
