Working with the Advanced Page Setup Wizard
After you have created a new OMR File document, use the advanced page setup to change one page of the document. This is not available for New OMR File - Laser Printer Only documents.
NOTE: Advanced page setup is intended only for advanced users who have non-standard or unusual forms design requirements, and should be used with caution. Any changes you make here could affect the usability and scannability of the document. Document setup provides appropriate settings for the most commonly used forms designs, and we recommend that you stay with those.
The advanced page setup is used only for New OMR File documents. Access this dialog by selecting Options > Advanced Page Setup. Choosing this option presents a series of dialogs where you can change some of the parameters for one page of your document. Any selections made apply only to the single page you are currently on. For example, you can change a single booklet page from portrait to landscape orientation.
The advanced page setup wizard includes the following steps:
-
Response Type and Spacing
This step identifies the type and spacing for response bubbles on this page.
Use this element… …to… Response Type
Choose the shape of response positions for this page of your document. The selections available depend on which scanner and read head type you selected when you created your document.
Grid Spacing
Choose the response grid spacing you want for the response positions for this page of your document. The selections available depend on which scanner and read head type when you created your document. The grid spacing dimension is based on the number of response positions in one square inch. The first number is the read head spacing and the second is the timing mark spacing.
The grid spacing you select determines the background grid lines that will be displayed in your document background workspace if you have selected Grid Lines in the View Menu. These are also the dimensions that will be used as the base for the Snap to Grid feature in the Options menu.

Leading Edge and Timing Track Location
This step identifies the position of key elements of your form page, such as leading edge
The edge of the document that first passes through the scanner read head. The leading edge is always one of the short edges of the data collection form and is perpendicular to the timing track. (Data collection forms are always fed into the scanner in portrait orientation.) and timing track
The small black rectangles along the guide edge of the document. Each timing mark triggers the scanner to read a row of OMR responses or the scanning software to locate OMR responses and other data. Timing marks must be present for each row of OMR responses. The timing marks are collectively called the "timing track." See Also form ID marks, skew marks.
Use this element… …to… Leading Edge
Define whether the leading edge
The edge of the document that first passes through the scanner read head. The leading edge is always one of the short edges of the data collection form and is perpendicular to the timing track. (Data collection forms are always fed into the scanner in portrait orientation.) of the document is at the Top or Bottom (portrait) or Left or Right (landscape) edge of the document.
Timing Track Side
Specify the side on which the timing track
The small black rectangles along the guide edge of the document. Each timing mark triggers the scanner to read a row of OMR responses or the scanning software to locate OMR responses and other data. Timing marks must be present for each row of OMR responses. The timing marks are collectively called the "timing track." See Also form ID marks, skew marks appears. If this is a multiple page document, you may select different locations for each page, if necessary. Choices are:
- Right - places the timing marks on the right edge of the document (portrait).
- Left - places the timing marks on the left edge of the document (portrait).
- Top - places the timing marks on the top edge of the document (landscape).
- Bottom - places the timing marks on the bottom edge of the document (landscape).
Set All Timing Marks
Place a timing mark in every row of possible response positions on this page.
Clear All Timing Marks
Delete all timing marks on a non-scanned page (e.g., cover letters, instructions sheets, etc.). Although this is available as an option, each sheet scanned must have at least one timing mark. This helps identify it as a valid document, shows clearly which edge is the guide edge, and prevents a document from being fed into the scanner in the wrong manner. A timing mark is required for each row that contains an OMR response position.
