Deleting Records from a Data File

To delete records from a data file:

  1. On the Data File menu of the Main Window, select Open. The Modify Data File dialog box opens.
  2. Use the Serial Number control to go to the record you want to delete.
  3. When you are on the appropriate record serial number, use the Delete Record button to mark the record for deletion. You can tell if a record is flagged for deletion; the button changes to Undelete Record. You can change the deletion status using this button.

NOTE: If you delete a record and then move to another record or click the Cancel button, that record remains deleted. Clicking the Cancel button only removes changes (deletions and other editing actions) made to the current record.

  1. After you make all the changes you need, click OK to exit the dialog, saving all your changes. At this time, the records are not actually deleted from the data file; the NCS Header is changed to flag it for deletion.
  2. To actually delete records, you must convert the data file, producing a second file where the records marked for deletion are removed. See Converting Data Files to Other Formats.

NOTE: Records marked for deletion are NOT processed when you perform post-scan editing or scoring.
