Archive Options dialog
for Image Scanner Implementation Only

Archive Options are used only for Post-Scan Image Archiving. The Archive Options dialog is accessed from the main window Options menu and lets you define archive options for data files, image files, and archive index files.

Data File

This area lets you specify the name of the source data file/clip file (data file name with a .tif extension) pair to be used for the archiving process. If you want ScanTools to use the existing data file selected in the ScanTools Main Window, click the Use current radio button.

If you do not want to use the current data file selected in the ScanTools Main Window, click the Use selected radio button. The field to the right of the box will become active. Click on the down arrow to the right of the field to display a list of all possible data files. Click the desired data file.

The directory/subdirectory path of this data file is assigned in the Paths dialog of the Configure menu.

Image Files Directory

This area lets you specify the destination directory where image files will be archived. If you want ScanTools to select the archive directory name for you, click the Use default drive/directory/subdirectory path (top) radio button. When you select this option, the image files directory is created as a subdirectory of the ScanTools data files directory using the base name of the data file as the directory name.

Example:

Data Directory:

\\Program Files\Scantron\ScanTools Plus\Data Files

Data File name:

may12.dat

Default Archive Directory:

\\Program Files\Scantron\ScanTools Plus\Data Files\may12

NOTE: If the data file has not yet been defined in the ScanTools Main Window, the default image file directory displayed here will be <Data Directory>\<Data File Name>. The archive directory name will assume the data file name when it is defined.

If you do not want to use a unique directory, click the Use selected radio button. The field to the right will become active. You can type the complete directory path in the field or you can select the Browse button and navigate to the desired directory to select it.

We recommend that you use a UNC name for the path (\\<directory path>) so that if you have mapped drives on your network, another computer not mapped to the same drives can still access the image files. Click the Browse button to navigate to the appropriate directory and start from the Network Neighborhood folder.

Select the Empty directory before archiving check box if you want all the existing files deleted from the selected Image Files Directory before you begin Post-Scan Image Archiving. If you have Confirmations on for Archive Options, you receive a confirmation message before the files are actually deleted. If you do not specify this option, then you must manually remove all files from the Image Files Directory before you may archive.

Index File

This area of the Archive Options dialog lets you specify the type of index file you want ScanTools to generate and the directory to which it will be written.

Click on the down arrow to the right of the Format field to display a list of the three data file formats. Select the desired data file.

The Format field shows one of the following:

The Directory field shows the disk\directory path where the index file will be stored. This path also appears in the Paths dialog of the Configure Menu.

NOTE: Neither of these two Index File fields can be assigned with a keyword in a context file. If ScanTools is started with a context file, the settings in the Archive Options dialog will be recognized and used accordingly.

Image Resolution

Archived images can be saved at the scanned resolution or, if desired, scaled to 200, 240, 300, 400, or 600 DPI. See Archive Image Scaling in Application Settings dialog Help for more information.

Re-archiving Data Files

We recommend that you do not re-archive data files if the application has been modified after scanning.
