Recognition Results dialog

This dialog is available from the Test Recognition button on the Graybox tool. It is available only if the optional component RealTime Character Recognition is installed and the ICR/OCR Graybox Resolution is selected. An image scanner must be used.

This dialog shows the character recognition results for the Evaluate Region of the currently selected ICR/OCR graybox. Only one graybox can be tested at a time. After you define the ICR/OCR Parameters used for character recognition, prepare a sample sheet with machine print or h and print characters as appropriate for the defined graybox. When the Test Recognition button is pressed, you are prompted to feed a sheet through the scanner. The character recognition results for the currently selected ICR/OCR graybox are then displayed in this dialog.

Recognition Results enables you to test the performance of the ICR/OCR Parameters you define and to determine if the Evaluate Region for the ICR/OCR graybox is in the correct location. If you need to make improvements, you can do so while still in application definition, and then re-test immediately.

Evaluate Region Viewing Area

The top portion of the dialog shows the image clip of the Evaluate Region of the graybox acquired when the sheet was scanned. The clip appears in the orientation defined for the grid in the Clip Attributes dialog. The displayed clip in the shown orientation is what is sent to the character recognition engine for resolution. The Evaluate Region is defined either by drawing the grid in the Grid Definition Area or by setting the coordinates in the Grid Measurement dialog.

Field Value

The area beneath the image shows the string of individual characters recognized in the selected graybox. The string of recognized characters returned by the recognition engine is justified and filled according to the ICR/OCR parameters specified (in the Selected ICR/OCR Graybox – Output dialog of the optional RealTime Character Recognition component). The first choice character appears. Any character that did not meet the defined Minimum Character Confidence is considered not recognized and appears as an asterisk.

All fill characters (spaces or zeroes) are assigned a confidence of 99. This includes leading characters, trailing characters, and spaces between words.

If Hand Print is selected, lower case characters are resolved as lower case but are output as upper case characters.

If Mixed Hand and Machine Print is selected, the characters are resolved in upper and lower case and may be output as all upper, all lower, or a combination of the two based on the quality of the hand print.

Use the right and left arrow keys on the keyboard to move through the character string. Other keystroke shortcuts are also available (see below) for navigating this area. As you move the cursor through the Field Value, the Recognition Results for Selected Character area is updated to show you the top three choices for the selected character plus the confidence level. You cannot change any of the values.

Keystroke Shortcuts

You can use keystroke shortcuts to navigate in the Field Value area:

Recognition Results for Selected Character

When you select a character in the Field Value string, this area shows recognition engine information about that character:

NOTE: If you customize a character set (in the ICR/OCR Parameters - Content dialog) and use the Dictionary Lookup option (Assist or Closest Match Lookup Mode), RealTime Character Recognition utilizing NestorReader may exclude a match due to case sensitivity differences between the library and the character set defined. If so, an asterisk appears for the character or word in Test Recognition. The Recognition Results first choice for each character in that word will show an asterisk with zero confidence.
