Job Specification Sheet
The Job Specification Sheet is printed when you select Print from the Job Specification dialog. It contains a summary of contact and document information for the Scantron DesignExpert file. If you will be printing your forms through Scantron Print Services, please supply your Customer Service Representative with a copy of this sheet. Keep a copy for your records—you will find it useful, especially if you use the Export to ScanTools and/or Merge Wizard features.
Access the Job Specification Sheet by selecting Option > Job Specification Sheet.

The following information is included in a Job Specification Sheet.
- Date the report was printed

Form Information
- Form Title: The title you entered in the Job Specification dialog under Form Information.
- Form Number: The number you assign to the form.
- File Name: The Scantron DesignExpert path and file names are included automatically.
- File last modified on date: The date and time the file was last saved.
- Document Type: The Scantron DesignExpert file type - Document (.dew or .dei), Template (.det), Underlay (.deu), or Overlay (.deo).

Customer Information:
The information you entered in the Job Specification dialog.
- Contact: From Contact Information Name.
- Organization: From Contact Information Company.
- Phone: From Contact Information Phone.
- Email/Fax: From Contact Information Email/Fax.
- Location: From Contact Information Location.

Special instructions
The information you entered in Special Instructions (see What's on the Screen, below).

Graphic files included with the document
The graphic file names used in the Scantron DesignExpert file (included automatically).

Scanner Selections
- Scanner Type: Reflective or Image.
- Scanner Model: Model selected in Scanner Options.
- Read Type: Pencil or Ink.
- Response Type: Oval or Circle.
- Grid: 6x5, 6x6, or 6X8.

Ink colors used
Black, 28 Carnival, 12 Ocean, etc. from Document Colors.

Document Selections
Physical characteristics of the entire document.
- Printing: Single-sided or Double-sided.
- Form Type: Cut sheet, Continuous, Multi-part, or Booklet.
- Orientation: Portrait or Landscape.
- Printed Form Size: The size of the finished form.

Page Selections
Physical characteristics of each page within the document.
- Page: Page number within the document.
- Orientation: Portrait or Landscape.
- Response Type: Circle or Oval.
- Style: Single Alignment Grid.
- Split Position: No longer used.
- Grid Size: 6x5, 6x6, or 6x8.

Form Construction
- Document Parts: Single, Multiple, Booklet.
- Number: Number of parts (if a Multi-Part document).
- Binding Method: Glue or Crimp (if a Multi-Part document).
- Glue Position: Top, Bottom, Left, or Right (if a Multi-Part document).
- Crimp Position: Top, Bottom, Left, or Right (if a Multi-Part document).
- Marginal Words Typeface: Arial, Times New Roman, Courier, etc. (if a Multi-Part document).
- Marginal Words Position: Lower Center, Lower Right, Right Center, etc. (if a Multi-Part document).
- Parts: Ink color, marginal word text, and marginal word color detail (if a Multi-Part document).

Version Information: Scantron

Field Definitions
Detailed information about each field to assist you withScantron ScanTools programming, Merge Wizard operation, and general troubleshooting.
- Field Number: The Field Order Number assigned in Modify Field Attributes.
- Field Name: The Field Name assigned in Response Grid Options - Scanning or in Modify Field Attributes.
- Type: Grid or Barcode.
- Page: The page number of the field where the field is located.
- Data Type: The Field Data Type assigned in Modify Field Attributes.
- Number of Characters: The number of characters in the field.
- Include Edit: "X" if Include Edit is checked for the field in Modify Field Attributes.
- Cannot Be Blank: "X" if Include Edit is checked and Cannot Be Blank is checked for the field in Modify Field Attributes. Blank otherwise.
- Correction: Optional or Mandatory if Include Edit is checked for the field in Modify Field Attributes. Blank otherwise.
- Completeness: None, Left Justified, Right Justified, Complete, or No Mult if Include Edit is checked for the field in Modify Field Attributes. Blank otherwise.
- Program Action: No Action, Flag Record, or Reject Record if Include Edit is checked for the field in Modify Field Attributes. Blank otherwise.
- Print String: Print string entered if Include Edit is checked for the field in Modify Field Attributes and Print String is checked and a string has been entered. Blank otherwise.
- Print Contents: "X" if Include Edit is checked for the field in Modify Field Attributes and Print Contents is checked. Blank otherwise.
- Scanner Action: No Action, Stop Scanner, Send to Primary Select Stacker and Stop, Send to Secondary Select Stacker and Stop, Send to Primary Select Stacker, or Send to Secondary Select Stacker if Include Edit is checked for the field in Modify Field Attributes. Blank otherwise.

Element Definitions
Detailed information about each grid element to assist you with Scantron ScanTools programming, Merge Wizard operation, and general troubleshooting.
- Field Name: The name of the field associated with the element.
- Order: The sequence of multiple grids assigned in Modify Field Attributes.
- Linked: "X" if linked to another response grid in a multiple grid field.
- Page: The document page number the response grid is displayed on.
- Position (X x Y): The coordinate location of the top left response position of the grid relative to the response grid. The X dimension is the scanner read head and the Y dimension is the timing track, regardless of document orientation.
- Size (W x H): The width and height of the response grid, measured in response positions.
- Spacing (X x Y): The spacing of the responses in the grid. The X spacing is the scanner read head and the Y spacing is the timing track, regardless of document orientation.
- Dir: Left (left to right), Up (top to bottom), Down (bottom to top), or Right (right to left). This is the direction in which responses are oriented in the response grid.
- Desig Type: numeric, alpha, no-space, alphanumeric, etc. This is the type of response designator defined for the grid.
- Data Type: alpha, no space, alphanumeric, BCD, etc. This is the type of data defined for the grid.
- Edit Type: left justified, right justified, must complete, etc. This is the type of edit check defined for the grid.
- Merge Type: none, variable, serial, and record. This is the type of merge printing defined for the grid.
- Merge Name: The name of the Merge Field.
- Merge Data Type: alpha no space, alphanumeric, BCD, etc. This is the type of data defined for the grid.

Contact Information |
Enter the contact information Scantron Print Services needs to be able to contact you. This includes name, company name, phone number, fax number, and location. These fields automatically contain the contact information entered when you (or your IT group) installed Scantron DesignExpert software. If you make changes here, the updated contact information is saved for the associated document only. The original contact information remains unchanged until/unless you reinstall the software. |
Special Instructions |
Provide up to 300 characters of special instructions or notes. If you are designing a multi-part form and have entered instructions under Special Instructions in Document Setup Marginal Words Options, those instructions appear here automatically. |
Include Grid Details |
Specify that the Job Specification Sheet should contain detailed Field Definitions and Element Definitions. These sections contain data as currently defined in the Modify Field Attributes dialog. They list each response grid, bar code, and merge field on your form and includes information on field names, grid order, data type, merge type, and more. TIP: If you are using Export to ScanTools, select this so you can review all scanning elements before you perform the Export to ScanTools. |
How do I…

- Review the settings on the Modify Field Attributes dialog.
- Select Options > Job Specification Sheet.
- Change or provide any special information.
- Click Print.
