Key Data dialog - Score Profile

This dialog is used when creating or editing a score profile. It is accessed when the magnifying glass cursor appears over the text line Keys stored in profile/Keys scanned online and you press the left mouse button. It allows you to select how the key data is accessed for the score profile.

Keys scanned online

You will scan the key data at scanning runtime.

Keys stored in profile

The key data for one or more subtests is stored in a data file, and then included in the score profile. The data file used can contain multiple records, one record for each subtest in the order in which the subtests are defined in the score profile.

The data file containing the key data must be created before the score profile is created. Scan a key sheet containing the correct answers into a data file. The key data is read from the data file into the score profile immediately upon exiting this dialog. This selection can be used for both online scoring, and post-scan scoring.

File Name

When you select Keys stored in profile, this list is enabled and contains all file names in the ScanTools data files subdirectory that match the current application. This list is accessed from the ScanTools data file subdirectory defined in the Paths dialog. Select the data file that contains the key data you want to use for this profile. The data file must have at least the same number of records as subtests defined; one record for each subtest, in the same order in which the subtests are defined. If you have no subtests defined when you are using this dialog, you will not be able to select a file until you define at least one subtest.

If you select a data file that has LESS key data (fewer records) than the number of subtests defined in the score profile, you see an error message and the key data will NOT be saved in the profile.

If you select a data file that has MORE key data (more records) than the number of subtests defined in the score profile, you see an informational message that the extra key data is ignored and NOT saved in the profile.

If you are editing a score profile and want to select a different file, you will not receive the old file name. ScanTools does not keep track of the file previously used. You may select a new file and the key data from the new file will overwrite the existing key data in the profile. If you have Major deletes selected in your Confirmation settings, you see a confirmation message before the file is overwritten.

If you are modifying a profile that had "Keys stored in profile", and changing the selection to "Keys scanned online", you see a confirmation prompt message if you have Major deletes selected in your Confirmation settings. If you agree to the change, the key data that was stored in the profile is deleted from the score profile.
