Open a Conversion Profile

From the ScanTools Main Window, select Open from the Convert menu to open and edit an existing conversion profile. You see the Conversion Profile dialog box. This window enables you to edit existing conversion profiles for the application selected in the ScanTools Main Window.

When you move the mouse pointer over data in the window that can be changed, the pointer turns into a magnifying glass. Click the left mouse button to display what can be done to that data.

When a "popup menu" appears, press the F1 key on your keyboard to show help. Complete details of what you can change in the conversion profile are contained in the help topics for the dialog boxes and popups. The parameters are listed in the order in which they appear or are encountered while editing a conversion profile. The following is a description of these parameters:

Profile Name dialog

Application

This area shows the name of the application associated with the profile. The name and number of your application appear according to your selection in the Preferences dialog, Application Display group box: Title only, Title - Number, or Number - Title.

During scanning

This option is used only for online conversion during scanning and ignored for post-scan converting. Select whether one or two files are created.

Select this option if you want to append data files and you want ScanTools software to automatically determine the starting serial number each time. ScanTools will examine the ASCII data file and read the 40-character NCS Header to determine the last record’s serial number.

Note: If you are using online editing, select this option instead of Write converted data only. Online editing needs records from the data file to perform its operation. If you select Write converted data only, the data file and converted data file will both be written, overriding your selection.

Without data in the data file (.DAT), ScanTools will be unable to determine the starting serial number when appending or display a formatted view of the data file’s records.
