Literal Tool

Use this dialog box to define a character or character string that may be inserted into the document record without actually reading the data off the form (a "literal"). This text is written to every document record in the specified field exactly as entered.s

You can also use a literal to include selected parts of the NCS Header in your data file. For example, you may want to include the application number and serial number from the NCS Header but not all the other header data. You do this by creating a new output field for each NCS Header part you want to include. You then use the Literal Tool to enter special characters in each of those output fields. The special characters specify exactly which parts of the NCS Header are to be included in the data file at scan time.

NOTE:If you later convert your data file, any output field that contains NCS Header information can be selected to convert.

What are the special NCS Header characters?
