Generate a Download Command File

Before you can use the Download software, you must generate a file that contains commands that can be downloaded to the scanner. The file contains information about the forms you are scanning. The file is referred to as the download command file.

Before you can generate the command file, you must have a name selected and appearing in the Download main window in the Command File box. If None appears here, you cannot generate a file. To create a name for a new Command File, use the File menu, Command File item to create a new command file name, or select an existing command file to use for generating a command file.

Before you generate the command file, you need to specify options for the command file generation. Select Command File Generation from the Options menu of the main window.

You can generate a command file by selecting the Generate button from the Download main window, or by selecting Generate Command File from the Actions menu of the main window.

The Generating Command File dialog box appears while Download software generates the command file. It shows the file name and path, which application the file is based on, and it progresses through the fields and grids as the file is generated.

You can generate the command file with or without an Edit Profile.

Not all ScanTools edits are allowed in Download; if ScanTools uses an invalid edit for Download, an error message appears.

The maximum size of one command file is 20 Kbytes. You can generate and download multiple command files to the scanner.

If any errors are encountered during command file generation, they are reported by a separate message. Pressing F1 for help while the message appears explains the message and what to do.

NOTE: If you generate a command file that contains no document information and you continue to Download the Command File, the specified application (if present) is removed from the scanner’s application memory. Generating a command file with no documents can occur when you generate and skip all the documents or when you have a command file that is too large and you truncate it before a document is included.
