Including Selected Parts of the NCS Header in Your Data File

ScanTools Plus provides the capability to include selected parts of the NCS Header in your data file. For example, you may want to include the application number and serial number from the NCS Header but not all the other header data. You do this by creating a new output field for each NCS Header part you want to include. You then use the Literal Tool to enter special characters in each of those output fields. The special characters specify exactly which parts of the NCS Header are to be included in the data file at scan time.

  1. Within the application, select the desired document and then click OK.
  2. In the Application Settings dialog, ensure that Enable NCS Header Translation is checked. Also, enter the visible character you want to use as the NCS Header Translation Sentinel character.
  3. Create a new output field using the Output Field Entry dialog. Give the output field a name that describes the part of the NCS Header you want added to the data file (for example, Application Number or Serial Number).
  4. Click the Literal Tool.
  5. In the Define Literal String dialog, type the special characters that designate the desired part of the NCS Header. The available special characters are shown in the table below.

The first character is the NCS Header Translation Sentinel character which is defined in the Application Settings dialog. By default, the NCS Header Translation Sentinel character is the pipe character, which is what is shown in the chart below. You can change the sentinel character in the Application Settings dialog; the characters that follow the sentinel character must be entered exactly as shown in the table below, however the characters are not case sensitive.

NOTE: You cannot combine special characters in one field. For example, you cannot specify |M|D|Y.

  1. Click Append.
  2. Repeat Steps 2 - 5 for each part of the NCS Header you want to include in your data file.
  3. Save and then exit the application.

NOTE:If you later convert your data file, any output field that contains NCS Header information can be selected to convert.
