Application Migration Options dialog

This dialog box appears immediately when you attempt to open an application, profile, or data file that was created with an earlier version of software (Windows or DOS versions). It is displayed before the application, data file, or profile is actually opened. For an overview of application migration, see Migrating Applications From Earlier Versions of Software.

Plus software uses a different format for these files and you must decide whether or not to save them in the newer format. Once saved in the newer format, the files cannot be used in previous versions of software.

Image Migration Options

For Image Scanner Implementation Only

Invert Orientation of Clips

If you are using an Image scanner or planning for future Image scanner implementation, part of the migration process (upgrading from an earlier version of to the current version of ) is to create default image clips for each grid defined in each document in the application. Earlier versions of did not include image clips for each grid.

By default, these clips are always created with an upright orientation suitable for most single sheet, portrait documents. Most booklet pages are upside down however, so clips must be inverted.

Invert Orientation of Clips lets you select which documents and which sides of each sheet in the document the image clips should be inverted.

You can select to have the image clip rotated 180 degrees (inverted) from the orientation of the corresponding grid. It is helpful to know which types of documents are in the application before making your selection.

NOTE: We recommend that you always make the appropriate selections at migration time, even if you select Enable Image = No Image (see below). This automatically establishes the image clips appropriately for viewing after scanning so that if you enable imaging in the application at a later time, the image clips are already in the correct orientation. If you do not make the appropriate selections during migration, you will have to adjust each individual grid image clip at a later time, either in the application before scanning or in the post-scan editor, if used.

In Documents

Use this area to select documents in the application for which you want the image clips to be inverted (rotated 180 degrees):

• None - Do not rotate any image clips in any documents. All documents retain their default portrait clips orientation.
• All - all documents have all grid image clips rotated 180 degrees.
• Booklets only - only booklet documents have all grid image clips rotated 180 degrees. Single sheet documents are left unchanged. This is the recommended option for most applications.
• Single sheets only - only single sheet documents have all grid image clips rotated 180 degrees. Booklet documents are left unchanged.

On Sides

Use this area to select sides of a sheet, in the documents selected above, for which you want the image clips to be inverted (rotated 180 degrees):

• Top - only image clips on the top side of a sheet are rotated 180 degrees.
• Bottom - only image clips on the bottom side of a sheet are rotated 180 degrees.
• Top and bottom - image clips on both the top and bottom sides of a sheet are rotated 180 degrees. This is the option recommended for most applications.

Enable Image

For Image Scanner Implementation Only

To scan with (or plan for future scanning with) imaging functions (image clipping for editing and archiving, graybox, check box, or tick mark), you must enable either the For Top and Bottom or the For Top Only option. This selection affects all documents in the application. You can change the selection later if you need to, in the Application Settings dialog.

These settings ensure compatibility when sharing an application between scanner models (i.e., OpScan iNSIGHT, 5000i, iNSIGHT, and OpScan 4U).

• For Top and Bottom - enables imaging for both the top and the bottom sheet sides of all documents in the application (default). This selection sets the Read Cell Spacing in the Application Settings dialog to OMR From Image .166 spacing (6/inch). If using OMR From Image and the application has form ID marks and/or skew marks defined on the bottom side of a sheet, you must enable the image for the bottom side by selecting Top and Bottom.
• For Top Only - enables imaging for only the top sheet side of all documents in the application. This is intended for the OpScan iNSIGHT 2/4 (with Image) scanner when image features are only needed on the top side of a sheet. This selection sets the Read Cell Spacing in the Application Settings dialog to OMR From Image .166 spacing (6/inch).
• No Image - disables imaging for all documents in the application. No image features such as image clips, graybox, check box, or tick mark can be defined in the application. Using this selection requires only OMR bubbles be defined for response grids. This selection sets the Read Cell Spacing in the Application Settings dialog to OMR From Scanner .166 spacing (6/inch).

For OpScan iNSIGHT 2/4 (with Imaging) scanners: The settings above are also used to increase scanning throughput when imaging is only required on the top side sheet (Top Only), or not required at all (No Image).

NOTE: Even if No Image is selected, we recommend that you select the appropriate clip orientation selections (above) at migration time. This automatically sets the image clips appropriately for later viewing so that if you enable imaging in the future, the image clips are in the correct orientation. If you do not make the appropriate selections during migration, you will have to adjust each individual grid image clip at a later time by opening the application and making the changes.

The chart below provides a summary of the possible combinations for the Enable Image choices and the Read Cell Spacing defaults in the Application Settings dialog. It shows which image and OMR operations are allowed for each side of a sheet.

5000i and iNSIGHT Migration Options

Light Source

Select the type of scanner light source you plan to use. OpScan iNSIGHT, 5000i, and iNSIGHT Image scanners are equipped with both an Infrared (pencil read) and a Red (ink read) light source read head. This selection is important because software controls the light source.

• Infrared (pencil read) - Infrared light is used. The scanner/application is designed to read number 2 pencil marking. Ink marking is typically NOT detected.
• Red (ink read) - Red light is used. The scanner/application is designed to read black or blue ink pen marking. Number 2 pencil marking is also detected.

Light source is hardware controlled if you are using an OpScan or EZData scanner. The scanner hardware determines light source regardless of your selection:

• OpScan scanners are equipped with either an Infrared (pencil read) or Red (ink read) light source read head.
• EZData scanners are only equipped with a Red (ink read) light source read head.

Save now in Plus format

If this box is checked, the application will immediately be saved in the new format with the image clip rotation options specified above. Once you have done this, you cannot open the application using earlier releases of (MS-DOS version) or (Windows version) software.

If this box is not checked, the Application Migration Options dialog box appears each time the application is loaded. There are only two reasons not to check the box:

• You are unsure of which options to select and don’t want to commit to a particular choice until testing has been done.
• This application must still be used by an earlier version of software and may not be upgraded to the newer version at this point. We strongly recommend against attempting to use common application directories for multiple versions of software.

NOTE: If you do not check this Save box but then click OK to open an application, make changes to it, then save it, it is saved in the newer format, and then will not be able to be used with earlier versions of software.
