Horizontal Adjustment

The application definition provides a control that improves alignment in the horizontal direction, across the width of a form, (x axis) for specific uses listed below. The OMR/Merge Horizontal Adjustment control is located in the Application Settings dialog; it affects all documents in the application.

The OMR/Merge Horizontal Adjustment is available for all Read Cell Spacings except .300 line read.

Enabling the control improves alignment in the horizontal direction (x-axis), of the following items:

• ScanFlex OMR response position horizontal spacing – while scanning, enables ScanFlex to adapt to variations in your form’s OMR response spacing of +/- 1/16 of an inch across the width of your form. This use requires that Enable ScanFlex is also selected in the Application Settings dialog.
• Background form imag emerge – improved sizing, positioning, and minor rotating to more closely match the background form image to the scanned image. This affects the following post-scanning operations:
• Post-Scan Editing – the background form image will more closely match the scanned data in the clip viewing area when correcting data, see Post-Scan Editing, (Correcting Serial Number... dialog).
• Post-Scan Archiving – the background form image will more closely match the individual grid clips as they are combined into the archived tif file.
• iNAME Merge – the background form image will more closely match the individual grid clips as it is merged into the existing archived tif file.

Forms Requirements

Use of this control requires that the following items are printed on the scannable document, and are also included in the background form image, which should match the scannable document exactly.

• form ID mark – on either the first or last timing mark of each page, in one of the specific locations listed below. The response position location for the form ID depends on both the OMR response spacing and the width of your form. The form ID mark must be printed in 100% black ink, so it is recognized by scanner.

• timing marks
• at least 2 timing marks, that are spaced at least 4 inches apart
• the background form image must have the same number of timing marks as the scanned form

The picture below shows the requirements for the printed form and matching background form image.

NOTE: If your forms do not contain the requirements for form ID marks and timing marks, and you enable the control, no horizontal adjustment is made. You receive no warnings. This could result in a merged background that is not well aligned, and for ScanFlex, during scanning, variations in response positioning would not be detected, resulting in scanning errors or missed data.
