At Scantron, we take pride in the talented individuals who drive our success, and today, we’re excited to spotlight an incredible team member—Tommy Gornick!
A Career Built on Expertise & Innovation
For the past 25 years, Tommy has been a dedicated hardware engineer, mastering the intricacies of various machines. Before joining Scantron, he spent 18 years at Xerox, where he worked his way up to servicing the highest-tier machines in the company—the digital color press line known as the iGen. Once he achieved this career milestone, he sought a new challenge and found his next adventure at Scantron.
Tommy initially joined Scantron in 2018, bringing his wealth of knowledge and experience to the team. Though he briefly left in 2021 due to COVID-related circumstances, he returned in February 2024, excited to pick up where he left off. During his time away, he expanded his expertise as a Field Service Engineer at Medtronic, working on life-saving medical devices such as ventilators, infant dialysis systems, and robotic surgical equipment. Now, he’s back, and the entire Scantron family is thrilled to have him!
A Global Perspective & Lasting Relationships
One of the most rewarding aspects of Tommy’s career has been the opportunity to travel internationally while working at Scantron. His work has taken him across the world, including Japan, Singapore, Canada, and Portugal. Beyond professional growth, these experiences have allowed him to forge meaningful relationships with clients and colleagues across cultures. Upon his return, he was warmly welcomed by past clients, reaffirming the trust and camaraderie that make Scantron so special.
Life Beyond Work
When Tommy isn’t immersed in technology and engineering, he enjoys a rich and fulfilling home life with his wife in Hastings, MN. They recently embraced the adventure of being empty nesters after their son left for college at the University of Iowa (Go Hawkeyes!). Moving from Maple Grove to a home on the Mississippi River, they now enjoy breathtaking views and daily visits from eagles, deer, and turkeys. Summers are filled with boating excursions
on the Mississippi and St. Croix Rivers, often accompanied by their two energetic Australian Shepherds, who are always the first at the door when they hear the word “boat.” An outdoor enthusiast, Tommy also enjoys fishing and golfing. Having grown up in Minnesota, he spent his childhood playing hockey and baseball, fostering a love for sports and teamwork that remains with him today.
A Hidden Talent for Building & Creating
Tommy has a unique ability to take things apart and put them back together—a skill that started as a childhood curiosity (much to his mother’s dismay) and evolved into a passion for fixing and building. This talent has extended into home remodeling, where he has successfully transformed blank-slate basements into beautifully finished spaces, handling everything from electrical and plumbing to tiling and framing. With his wife’s vision and his craftsmanship, they make the perfect team!
Education & Expertise
Tommy earned his degree in Microcomputer Technical Support from the Academy of Education Center, equipping him with the skills that have propelled his impressive career in engineering and technology.
A Welcome Return
We couldn’t be happier to have Tommy back at Scantron! His expertise, passion for problem-solving, and commitment to building relationships make him an invaluable asset to our team!
