The Mark Information Buffer contains information about the marks that were scanned to produce the data in the outrec (Output Record Buffer). Each byte of data in the Mark Information Buffer pertains to the byte of data in the corresponding location of the Output Record Buffer. That is, the 50th byte of data in the Mark Information Buffer is about the mark(s) that was scanned to produce the 50th byte of data in the Output Record Buffer.
References to markbuf are zero-based.
Each byte has the following organization:
Location | Description |
---|---|
Bits 0-3 |
Contains the read level (0-F Hexadecimal) of the mark if a valid mark was found. |
Bit 4 |
Unused |
Bit 5 |
This bit is set ("1") if the output record data byte was not produced as a result of scanning a mark; either the data is part of the NCS Header, is filler, or is the second byte of a 2-digit item. This bit is also set if the data byte is derived from a binary or decimal grid. |
Bit 6 |
This bit is set ("1") if mark discrimination was done on the character that produced the data byte. |
Bit 7 |
This bit is set to 1 if a light mark was found in the character that produced the data byte, or to 0 if a dark mark was found. |
NOTE: If only Bit 5 of a byte in the Mark Information Buffer is set, the ASCII character produced by that byte is a space. The presence of an ASCII space in the Mark Information Buffer indicates that there is a character in the output record that was not produced by scanning a mark.
