Diagnostic Scan Settings dialog
for Image Scanner Implementation Only

This dialog is only displayed if the configured scanner is an OpScan iNSIGHT, iNSIGHT, or 5000i. And, it is then only displayed the first time you select the Scan button in the Sheet Image Diagnostic dialog. It enables you to select an application, or select the read cell spacing, scanner light source, and ScanFlex settings if the ScanFlex option is installed.

NOTE: If you wish to change the settings, exit the Sheet Image Diagnostic dialog, re-enter it, and then select Scan again. The Diagnostic Scan Settings dialog will reappear and you can change any of the settings.

Load settings from application

Select this if you have an application that contains all the appropriately defined settings.

Use the list to navigate to and select the ScanTools Plus application file that matches the form you are scanning with the Sheet Image Diagnostic.

NOTE: This is required if you have skew marks defined and printed on the sheet. Skew mark detection in the Sheet Image Diagnostic requires the appropriate application be selected.

Use manual settings

Select this if you want to select the settings listed below. If you are using a diagnostic scan for skew mark detection, do not use this option.

Read Cell Spacing

Make appropriate settings for your scanner and the application you will be using for scanning.

OMR From Image

OMR data is created from a scanned image that is stored in the PC memory buffer where the image is accessed by ScanTools software.

OMR From Image must be selected if you are using the optional ScanFlex module with your image technology scanner.

For OpScan iNSIGHT 70/150, iNSIGHT 20, iNSIGHT 30, and 5000i scanners: OMR From Image is always used.

For OpScan iNSIGHT 2/4 with imaging scanners:We recommend OMR From Image be selected in most situations.

The following spacing options are available with OMR From Image:

OMR From Scanner

OMR data is created in the scanner and sent to ScanTools software in ASCII format.

We recommend OMR From Scanner be used in the following situations:

ScanFlex

Enable ScanFlex

If the ScanFlex module is installed and you are using an OpScan iNSIGHT 70/150, 5000i, iNSIGHT 20, iNSIGHT 30, or OpScan iNSIGHT 2/4 (with Imaging) scanner, check Enable ScanFlex to enable selected ScanFlex functions to be tested. Any of the ScanFlex Options listed below that are checked are also enabled. ScanFlex can be disabled by unchecking the box. If disabled, all of the ScanFlex Options are also disabled, whether they are checked or not.

Enabling ScanFlex for Sheet Image Diagnostics does not affect the ScanFlex settings for your applications.

NOTE: .300 line read spacing OMR from Image is not currently supported for the ScanFlex function.

ScanFlex Options

Enable TM height/width check

When the ScanFlex module is installed and enabled, Enable TM height/width is the default setting and is checked. ScanFlex expects timing marks to be of uniform size and shape. This setting enables ScanFlex to ignore doodling or other marking in the timing track that is not consistent with average timing mark height and width. If timing marks on your form are not uniform in size and shape, you can uncheck Enable TM height/width.

Enable Form ID adjust TM 1
Enable Form ID adjust End TM

Check Enable Form ID adjust TM 1 and/or Enable Form ID adjust End TM to enable ScanFlex to adapt to small variances in OMR response spacing on your form during scanning.

ScanFlex expects OMR responses to be spaced at exactly the Read Cell Spacing selected in the Application Settings dialog, either .166 or .200 spacing. If they are not, errors or missing data may occur.

ScanFlex is able to adapt to +/- 1/16 inch variance in OMR response spacing if Enable Form ID adjust is checked and your form contains an appropriately placed form ID mark to reference:

See Designing Forms for ScanFlex for details about where to locate the necessary form ID mark and other form design requirements.

The OMR response spacing variance cannot exceed +/- 1/16 inch, measured at the OMR response position farthest away from the timing track (whether used on your form or not). For example, response 47 for .166 spacing on an 8-1/2 inch wide form.

If the required form ID mark is not present, no adjustment is made, even if Enable Form ID adjust is checked for your application.
