Form Image Offsets dialog
for Image Scanner Implementation Only

The alignment of scanned form images to background form images is especially important to both Editing and Image Archiving processes. In most cases, ScanTools automatically adjusts the alignment of these images based on a variety of form characteristics, such as the number and location of timing marks.

Alignment is performed independently for each form in each application and takes precedence over the settings in this dialog. If a form has the required form ID mark and timing marks, you should first try using the OMR/Merge Horizontal Adjustment in the Application Settings dialog to improve the alignment of the background form image to the scanned image.

Occasionally however, your forms may not have the exact characteristics required by ScanTools to make the automatic alignment. Although the image alignment may be acceptable in such cases, ScanTools then returns precedence to the controls in this dialog so that you can make adjustments if advised to do so by Scantron Customer Support personnel. The horizontal and vertical offset settings in this dialog are always available to ScanTools; they are simply not applied if the software can adjust automatically.

The Form Image Offsets dialog is accessed from the Diagnostic menu. It allows you to manually adjust alignment between a background form image and the captured image clip with which it is to be merged. This dialog enables you to shift the background image in both the horizontal and vertical axes in increments of a thousandth of an inch. Alignment is performed globally for all forms scanned and takes precedence only when ScanTools is unable to adjust alignment automatically.

CAUTION: Manual form image offsets are global settings. This means that any settings are applied to all the forms you scan. By comparison, automatic alignment is performed independently for each form in each application.

Horizontal

A positive number shifts the background image to the left. A negative number shifts the background image to the right.

Vertical

A positive number shifts the background image up. A negative number shifts the background image down.

CAUTION: The Form Image Offsets dialog should only be used for diagnostic purposes when advised by Scantron Customer Support personnel. It is NOT intended for routine use by customers.
