Image Enable Disable Utility Overview
for Image Scanner Implementation Only

During the installation of ScanTools software, a utility program, Image Enable Disable Utility.exeis also installed in the same location as ScanTools software. The default directory is: C:\Program Files\Scantron\ScanTools Plus.

This utility allows you to change three application settings in one or more ScanTools applications without having to open each application separately.

NOTE: Image functions such as the Image Enable Disable Utility can be defined in any ScanToolsprogram. You can implement your application with OMR technology scanners and plan for future Image technology scanner use.

Selecting Files from Earlier Versions of ScanTools Software

If the applications you select are from earlier versions of ScanTools software and have not been migrated to the newer ScanToolsformat, this utility automatically migrates and saves them in the newer software format.

Migrated File Backward Compatibility

• Files migrated from ScanTools (DOS environment) and ScanTools (16-bit, Windows environment) cannot be used in the earlier version of ScanTools that they came from. They are not "backward compatible" after they are saved in the new format.
• Files migrated from ScanTools II and Image ScanToolscanbe used in the earlier version of ScanTools that they came from. They are "backward compatible" after they are saved in the new format with the exception of profiles and new functions. Profiles are notbackward compatible and new software functions that are selected are, of course, not be available in the earlier version of the software.

Application Migration Options

You do not receive the Application Migration Options dialog when using this utility program. If you need the functions available during Migration, first migrate the application, and then use this utility. See Migrating Applications from Earlier Versions of ScanTools Software for more information.

The application settings that you can change using this utility affect all sheets of all documents in the application. The three application settings that you can change with the Image Enable Disable Utility are:

• Enable/DisableImaging - lets you enable or disable imaging to match the requirements of your application, including imaging for clipping, OMR from Image, and for Check Box and Tick Mark OMR mark styles. This provides the same function as Enable Image in the Application Settings dialog. The choices are:
  • Enable Top and Bottom Side, same as Top and Bottom in Application Settings.
  • Enable Top Side only, same as Top Only in Application Settings.
  • Disable All, same as No Image in Application Settings.

As noted above, Image functions can be defined in any ScanTools program. You can implement your application with OMR technology scanners and plan for future Image technology scanner use.

• OMR Source - lets you select which method of reading OMR data is used. The actual read cell spacing (.166, .200, or .300) is NOTchanged. The choices are:
• OMR from Scanner, same as OMR from Scanner in Application Settings.
• OMR from Image, same as OMR from Image in Application Settings.
• Light Source - lets you select which light source - and therefore which marking instrument - illuminates forms. The choices are:
• Infrared (pencil read), Pencil marking ONLYcan be detected by the scanner.
• Red (ink read), Black and blue ink marking PLUSpencil marking can be detected by the scanner.

This utility lets you do the following:

1. Select the applications you want to change.
2. Select the three application settings listed above; whatever you select applies to all applications selected.
3. Convert (save) the applications with the new settings applied.
4. Automatically create a backup file of the application file(s), with the previous settings.
