This dialog is used in an edit profile when a Graybox edit has been defined. If multiple grayboxes are defined in a field, the first grid in the field must be a graybox for the graybox edit to be applied. We do not support appending standard grayboxes and ICR/OCR grayboxes to the same field because the results are unpredictable. See Edit Profile - Edit Type popup.
Graybox Threshold Value applies to standard grayboxes only. At post-scan edit time, graybox results are initially presented to the operator with the edit failure text reading "Area should be key entered." Applying the edit profile to the data will destroy the byte in the output showing the density of the region.
The graybox threshold value is compared to the read value (density) that was detected during scanning for the standard graybox.
Enter a value between 0 and 15 (5 is the default):
The Graybox Threshold should not be higher than the Graybox Tool Cutoff Value or the edit will cause data to never be presented to the post-scan editor.
NOTE: If the Edit Option is set to Edit Normally and the Edit Pass Flag in the NCS Header is set to an N or a space, all non-graybox edit failures for that record appear in the post-scan editor, regardless of the Program Action specified in the edit profile.
CAUTION: You cannot define an ICR/OCR graybox without having the full function RealTime Character Recognition optional component installed on your machine. However, if RealTime Character Recognition is not installed on your machine you can change the Resolution of an ICR/OCR Graybox to Standard Graybox. If you make this Resolution change, all ICR/OCR graybox parameter definitions will be lost.
Character recognition with the optional RealTime Character Recognition component is done at scan time using the ICR/OCR Parameters defined in the application definition. Any characters that fell below the Minimum Character Confidence during scanning are written to the data file as an asterisk. Those non-recognized characters written as an asterisk are called Questionable Characters.
If the graybox data meets the graybox cutoff value defined on the Graybox Tool, the evaluate region will be clipped and sent to the recognition engine. There are three possible outcomes when an ICR/OCR graybox with a Graybox edit is resolved at scan time:
When the outcome is Data Not Present, the On Failure Program Action specified in the Data Not Present group box will be applied:
- If the On Failure Program Action specified is Require Key Entry, the graybox output will be replaced with asterisks in the data file.
- If the On Failure Program Action specified is No Action, the graybox is considered to have resolved successfully and the output will not be replaced with asterisks.
When the outcome is ICR/OCR Confidence Failure, the On Failure Program Action specified in the ICR/OCR Confidence Failure group box will be applied.
Completeness checks apply to the field as a whole and not to individual grids in the field. For a field with more than one ICR/OCR graybox:
Check this to display, in the post-scan editor, the highest confidence character returned by the recognition software.
CAUTION: Questionable characters (those that are below the Minimum Character Confidence) that are the highest confidence character, appear as recognized during scanning in the editor and stored as asterisks in the data file. If Auto-Advance is enabled in the post-scan editor and you advance from field to field without making corrections, the data is considered to be edited and the questionable characters will be written to the data file, replacing the asterisks.
NOTE: Minimum Character Confidence is set in the optional RealTime Character Recognition component, in the Edit Selected ICR/OCR Graybox - Output dialog.
This setting takes affect only when the Maximum Questionable Characters has been reached.
This is enabled only when Replace All Characters when Maximum Questionable Characters is Exceeded is enabled. The number selected here determines how the characters for ICR/OCR grayboxes in the field area appear in the post-scan editor. When the number of questionable characters in the field exceeds this number, the post-scan editor will replace all characters in the field with the replacement character.
This is enabled only when Replace All Characters when Maximum Questionable Characters is Exceeded is enabled. Use this to select the character used to display each character in the field.
