This dialog is used when you create or open an edit profile. It is only available when you select Show All Field Edit Options in the Edit Profile - Application popup or the Edit Profile - Document popup.
Edits can apply to all of a field, or only to part of it. Edits that apply only to part of a field are called partial field edits.
Select Partial Edit from the Edit Profile - Edit Type popup to open the Partial Edit dialog. Use this dialog to select which part of the output field can be edited. All the edit criteria set up for this field in the edit profile will apply only to the characters specified by the partial edit.
In the Partial Edit dialog, enter in the From field and the To field the range of characters in the field that you want to be editable.
Example: You have a zip-code output field named ZIP that is 9 positions wide, and you only want to edit the last four digits. You would set the From field to 6, and the To field to 9. This indicates that you are allowing positions 6 through 9 of the field to be edited.
Multiple Partial Edits: You can set up multiple partial edits for a single field.
Partial Edits and Custom Translate Tables: When applying a partial edit to a field which uses a custom translate table, each partial edit must begin at the first character of a response to ensure all multiples and omits are accurately identified.
CAUTION: Do NOT attempt to perform partial editing of date fields. ScanTools is set up to accept month/day data between 01/01 and 12/31. If you partially edit the date without including the year, dates such as 01/32, 01/99, 02/30, etc., will be considered valid. Perform only FULL editing of the 6-character or 8-character date field.
