Clip Attributes Dialog Box

(Post-scan archiving only) Check this box to archive the current individual grid image clip. Clips designated for archive are initially stored in the standard clip file but are copied out and written as separate entities during the post-scan archive process.

CAUTION: Do not check this box if you are using the scan-time iNAME image archive function.

If selected:

• the "Archived" indicator appears in the Output section of the Application Module home screen when you select the grid. This indicator makes it easier to verify what grids are archived within an application.
• "Archived" or "Part. Archived" appears in the Record Format Attributes section of the View Application dialog box. "Archived" appears if all of a field’s grids are archived. "Part. Archived" (Partially Archived) appears if only some of a field’s grids are archived.

(Optional) Type the suffix to be assigned to the image clip during scanning. Enter a maximum of 10 characters.

NOTE: The file name suffix is not the same as the file extension. All archive clips have a .jpg or .tif file extension. The suffix is added to the document serial number to make the archive clip file name.

Each archived clip generates its own clip file:

• For post-scan archiving, the clip file name is composed of the six-digit document serial number assigned during scanning plus the suffix defined here. The file name suffix guarantees that all of the archive clips have unique file names. For example, an archive clip of a signature might use a suffix of SIG. For serial number 1, the archive clip for the signature would then be named 000001SIG.TIF where 000001 is the serial number, SIG is the file name suffix, and .TIF is the file extension. ScanTools ensures that all suffixes used within a particular document are unique.
• For scan-time archiving using the iNAME image archive function, you have more flexibility in defining file names for image clips generated during scanning. The File Name Suffix appears as an Image to Archive when you configure iNAME.

You may need to change the image rotation for optimal viewing of the clip when editing or archiving. You can rotate clips separately and differently from each other.

(Optional) If a background form file is being used during scanning (see Document and Sheet Properties Dialog - Background Tab), check this box to rotate the background image for this individual clip with the clip, using the rotation defined above.

NOTE: You do not need to check Combine with Form if you are using iNAME Merge to do a background form merge

TIPS:

• Archive the form image with the clip only when the background makes the clip more readable than if it didn’t have the background form image. For example, while an archive clip of OMR results would probably be useless without the context provided by the background form, an archive of a signature or a handwriting sample would probably not benefit from the background form. Combining the archive clip with the background form is a slow operation, involving loading and decompressing both the clip and the background, doing a color reduction on the background to match the depth of the archive clip, possibly doing rotation, then compressing and writing the combined bitmap. By contrast, if no rotation or combination with a background image is needed the clip never needs to be uncompressed or built in memory, simply copied as a compressed entity.
• If your form has the required form ID mark and timing marks, you can use the Horizontal Adjustment in the Application Settings dialog box to improve the alignment of the background form image to the scanned image.
