Compatibility with ScanTools Plus

Applications, profiles, and data files created and saved in ScanTools Plus software (versions 6.00000 - 7.00000) are compatible with ScanTools Plus software version 7.1.

Backward Compatibility

CAUTION: After saving in the newer format, the applications remain backward compatible to the same earlier version of ScanTools software, providing the following feature is not being used within the ScanTools definition file:

• Grayboxes using absolute units of measurement (inches or millimeters) to specify the size and location of evaluate and clip regions. (Grayboxes using Cell/TM or Hybrid units of measurement are acceptable.)

• Software bar codes.

If you select features (other than what is listed above) or perform operations in ScanTools version 7.1 (and later) that were not available in the earlier version, they are simply unavailable.

Profiles are backward compatible to ScanTools Plus software (version 6.0 - 7.0) providing new features are not used.

You must use the Add Image Header Fields in the ScanTools Plus application definition being used with your program if your program is performing image clipping. This option is on the Output menu in the application definition screen. For details see Image Header Fields - ScanTools Plus Application Definition.

You can use ScanTools Plus iNAME image archiving with your solution program. iNAME parameters must be defined in the ScanTools application definition. This is documented in ScanTools Plus help.

To implement iNAME scan-time image archiving with your link solution, the following must be considered in the ScanTools application definition:

• Power User – the iNAME Merge process requires write privileges to the root of the mapped network drive or the root of the UNC path. It can perform its tasks even if the application user does not have the required write privileges. To do so, you must define a Power User in the Power User group box who does have the required write privileges. This function enables you to enter the Username, Domain, and Password of a proxy "Power User" so that iNAME has write privileges even if the actual application user does not.
• Additional file required – after the iNAME and iNAME Merge parameters have been defined appropriately in the ScanTools application definition, an additional ScanTools Plus file is automatically created and MUST be distributed with the ScanTools application file. The file required is the iNAME configuration file. It is stored in the ScanTools Applications directory and has the name format of Z###.INI, where ### is the application number and .INI is the filename extension.
• iNAME Merge – control is available in the solution program, see iNAMEHelper.AutoMerge property.
