Translate dialog - Score Profile

This dialog is used when creating or editing a score profile. It applies to an individual subtest and is accessed when the magnifying glass cursor appears over the text line Translations (not defined) under the Subtest heading. It allows you to define a maximum of 25 translation characters for this subtest. This allows you to substitute characters for correct test responses as the data is scored and written to the output record. One use of this function is to quickly distinguish correct responses from incorrect ones in the output record.

In defining translation characters in the From/To list area, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move around. When editing existing translations, you must first select the entry in the From/To list; then you can change the length and type over the existing characters. If you want to add an entry to an existing list, you must add it after the last entry. To delete an entry, select it and press the Delete key.

Length

Select the length in number of characters, either 1 or 2. The number selected applies to both the From and To character. The default value is 1. You may have entries of different lengths in one translation list. If you change the length of an entry, you must reenter the From and To characters.

From

Enter the correct response character you want translated. A blank space can be defined as the From character; either use the space bar, or entering no character will give you a space.

To

Enter the character that will be substituted for the correct response in the output record. A blank space can be defined as the To character; either use the space bar, or entering no character will give you a space. If you define spaces for both the From and To characters, no translation entry is created.

Copy from Subtest

If there is another subtest within the document that has translations defined, the names of the subtests appear in this dropdown list. From this list, select the subtest from which you want to copy the translation definition. Once selected, the translation list is updated, and you may continue to edit the list if you need to. If you select to copy from another subtest when you already have translations defined, you see a warning message if you have major deletes checked in your Confirmation settings.

OK

Accepts the current selection and closes the dialog. If you define translations, they appear under the Translations heading the next time you open or view the score profile. To see the heading and translation list, you must have Show subtest details selected in one of the following:

Score Profile - Application popup

Score Profile - Document popup

Score Profile - Subtest popup
