Command Line Entry

If you want to start ScanTools from the Run dialog box, or create your own icon and command line to automate a particular ScanTools function, you can use this command line syntax:

"ScanTools Plus" /function "context file name.ctx"

NOTE: The program name, ScanTools Plus, must be enclosed in quotes because of the space between ScanTools and Plus. There must be a space after the last quote, before the /. The context file name can be a long file name and must have the extension .ctx. If the file name contains a space, it must be enclosed in quotes.

The valid values for the function are:

The context file contains keyword parameters used by the function.

For example, if you want to start ScanTools and scan, enter this command line text:

"ScanTools Plus" /scan "midterm attendance.ctx"

ScanTools first searches your default directory for the context file. If it does not find it there, it searches for the directory where ScanTools is currently installed.

NOTE:ScanTools will use a default value for any keyword that is not provided or for any keyword that is provided without a parameter. See Defaults dialog and Context File for information about keywords and the rules for default keyword values.

CAUTION: Do not use an autoname with the *s (sequence number) code in a context file. This code is not supported in a context file. All other autoname codes are valid.

If you want ScanTools to present a confirmation dialog before the command is performed:

  1. At the main window, display the Advanced Configuration dialog by pressing Ctrl + Alt + z.
  2. Enable the Use Confirmations in Command Line Mode check box.
  3. Click OK.
