Using the Scantron OLE DB Provider with Excel

Scanned data can be imported into Microsoft® Excel (2007 or later) by using the Excel Data Connection Wizard. Previous versions of Excel do not include the Data Connection Wizard. To import data into an older version of Excel you must write a macro or program. For more information regarding Excel macros, see the Microsoft® Excel Help.

To import scanned data into Excel (2002 or later) via the Data Connection Wizard:

  1. On the Data menu, select Import External Data, then Import Data. The Select Data Source window is displayed.
  2. Click the New Source button to open the Data Connection Wizard.
  3. Select Other/Advanced from the list, then click Next. The Data Link Properties dialog is displayed. Select the Provider tab if it is not selected by default.
  4. Select Scantron OLE DB Provider for ScanTools Plus from the list, then click Next. The Connection Tab is displayed.
  5. Specify the data (*.dat), image (*.tif), application (*.sds.StxAppDef), or edit profile (*.$ep.StxEdtPrf) files you want to connect to. For more information on selecting data files, see Data Link Properties dialog - Connection Tab.
  6. After you specify your data file(s), Click OK to return to the Excel Data Connection Wizard. The Choose Data window is displayed. The Choose data window shows a list of document definitions to choose from.
  7. Select a document name to view and then click Next. The Finish window is displayed.
  8. Enter a name and description (optional) for the Data Connection (*.odc) file, the click Finish.
  9. Select where in Excel you want to display the data (Existing worksheet or New worksheet) and then click OK. The selected scanned data is displayed in an Excel worksheet.
