Using the Scantron OLE DB Provider with Visual Basic 6.0

Microsoft® Visual Basic® 6.0 has several tools to enable rapid application development with the Scantron OLE DB Provider (Scantron.Oledb). The Microsoft® Visual Database Tools Query Designer enables you to design database queries visually, or you can use SQL statements. You can test the queries against the Scantron OLE DB Provider. The MSDN has excellent documentation to help you leverage this powerful tool.

NOTE:Scantron.Oledb supports a subset of SQL that is limited to commands that relate to scanned data. For more information, see the Data Services Technical Overview.

Visual Basic® 6.0 also provides ActiveX Data Bound controls. These controls can be added to your project to enable you to easily connect to data. The Scantron OLE DB Provider directly supports any control that is ADO or OLE DB aware. You can also use standard edit box, label, and checkbox controls although they would require more programming.

The following are some typical examples of how to set data specific properties at design time via the Visual Basic® form designer. These examples not exhaustive nor do they reflect the full capabilities of the Scantron OLE DB Provider.

Microsoft® ADO Data Control 6.0 (SP4) (OLEDB)

Microsoft® DataGrid Control 6.0 (SP5) (OLEDB)

Microsoft® DataList Controls 6.0 (SP3) (OLEDB)

Microsoft® DataCombo Control

Standard Edit Box, Label, and ComboBox
