Adding or Editing Custom Designators

Use this dialog to create or edit a list of designators that will appear as labels inside grid response bubbles. Access this dialog in one of the following ways:

After you name and create the list of characters, you can select the list name as a Custom Designator Type in the Modify Response Grid Designator tab.

NOTE: You cannot edit custom designator types in the Grid wizard.

Use this element… …to…

Name

Enter a name for the list of characters you are creating. This name appears as a Custom selection in the Grid Wizard Designator step or the Modify Response Grid Designator tab. If you are editing an existing list, you cannot change the name.

If you specify a name already in use, you prompted to confirm adding this custom designator list as a duplicate.

CAUTION: If you export this form to ScanTools, each named custom designator type and its designator list must be unique. For example, if two custom designator types have the same name but different designator lists, or if two custom designator types have different names but the same designator list, the ScanTools application generated by Export to ScanTools may contain errors.

Designators

Enter or change the character(s) to be used as a designator for each position in the grid. These are case-sensitive, so upper and lower case can both be used (for example IN and in are different entries). Enter the characters in the order in which they should appear in the grid, and separate each designator with a comma (for example, AK,AL,CA, etc.). The first designator you enter is used for the first response position, the second designator for the second position, and so on.

NOTE: Editing designator sets changes the designators only for the selected response grid; all other grids using this designator set are now changed to use the custom type "none," although the old custom designators still appear on the grid. To change the designators for the other grids using the set, modify those response grids to use the redefined custom designator set or create new custom designator sets for them.
