VelocityMatters: How Rapid Item Development Can Help Get Your Program
to Market Faster and Keep It Updated More Easily
Tuesday, February 20, 4:15 - 5:00pm, Verbena/Periwinkle Room
Whether launching a new credential or certification, or maintaining an existing one, there are times when ensuring speed to market is just as critical as ensuring high quality assessments for your program. But unfortunately, while quality has always been a hallmark of the assessment industry, speed has not. This session will review a Rapid Item Development protocol that has successfully supported new and existing certification programs in a shorter amount of time. The discussion will include specific examples and resulting outcomes of the implementation approach. In addition this session will discuss three program components necessary for this approach and will provide attendees with tools for (1) evaluation of whether a Rapid Item Development process is applicable to their assessment needs, (2) confirmation of software functionality necessary to use within this process, (3) identification of various types of required expertise, and (4) a review of best practices for implementation.

The testing industry impacts nearly every aspect of our lives, from healthcare, structural engineering, and air quality, to education, finances, and insurance, just to name a few. Despite this impact, testing has received significant negative attention from media and various legislative officials. As a result, test publishers and credential issuers are facing growing needs to better explain the value of quality testing and the rigor which it entails. Join with experts from across various assessment industry associations to discuss the value of testing to our communities and how we can better communicate and positively demonstrate that value.
